"Hook-up", marriage, and elimination Great Gatsby version

Everyone knows or has heard of the wonderful game "hook-up", marry, and elimination. But I am not going to use celebrities or my friends to play this game. I am going to use 6 characters from the wonderfully written 1920s based book The Great Gatsby. I am going to play this game with 3 men characters and 3 girl characters. The men characters I am going to be using are Tom Buchanan, Mr.Wilson, and Jay Gatsby. The women characters I am going to be using are Myrtle Wilson, Daisy Buchanan, and Jordan Baker.

The Women I would "hook-up" with would-be Daisy Buchanan. The reason I say this is because she is pure and lively in nature. However, she is shallow, selfish, and only looks for money. Besides her being shallow and a gold digger in a way she would still be a person I would hook up with in my opinion. She is also very charmful which to me is kind of bad in a way because that's how she gets her gold-digging hook in you. She used her charm on Gatsby and she also did it on Tom. Even though she genuinely loved Jay Gatsby in the past she still used her charm when she saw him again.

Now, in the book The Great Gatsby the women, I would marry would-be Jordan Baker. The reason I say this is because she would be a good wife in my opinion. She is however wild in nature and cheats. She also would not and does not seem like a commitment kind of person to me. The reason I say this is because she cheats in the book The Great Gatsby she cheated in her golf tournament. If she can cheat in a golf tournament then what makes me think she will cheat on your marriage. Jordan is also self-centered. However, compared to the other candidates she seems like the better wife to me.

Finally, the women I would Eliminate would be Myrtle Wilson. We all know I do not like Myrtle because she is a gold digger like Daisy but that is not the only reason I do not like her. Another reason I would eliminate Myrtle is she is a cheater, she cheated in her marriage with Tom Buchanan. She also has a cheap but expensive taste in items because of her furniture in her Manhatten apartment. However, I do feel for her even though she is annoying because she wants more in life then what she has now. She wants to be treated like daisy and not like a poor girl who lives in the Valley of Ashes. Even though I feel for her I do believe my placement of her in this game is the right place for her even though I would never and could never kill anyone, even if it is figuratively.

If I had to "hook-up" with one of the guys it would be Wilson. The reason I say this is because he is kind but hopeless. He is however shy and not a lively person. He is determined in a way because he is determined to make his mechanic/ car dealership popular. He would not be a good husband for me because he is no lively and because he is gullible to everything and anything a person tells him. He was so gullible he believed Tom was going to sell him a car. It was, however, a tie between Goerge and Gatsby for the marriage position but I do believe I chose the right spot for Wilson.

The person I would marry is, you guessed it, Jay Gatsby. The reason I say this is because he is a loyal and good-hearted man. HE is the polar opposite of Tom which makes me like Gatsby even more. He is a person who I would believe is a commitment kind of person. He gets attached to things too easily. Such as Daisy Buchana, Gatsby is madly in love with Daisy since he first met her when he was an officer in World War 1. Jay Gatsby is what you would call a hopeless romantic. He hopes for his one love to love him back, but we all know Daisy, the person Jay loves, does not love him in the same way. He is also not a lively person; even though lively and extravagant parties that does not make him a lively person. He does, however, sell alcohol and other goods during the 1920s, which was a time when alcohol could not be sold or drank. Besides him doing illegal things and not being a lively person he would still make a good husband in my opinion.

Finally, the person I would eliminate would be Tom Buchanan. Everyone knows I do not like Tom Buchanan. The reason I say this is because he cheated on Daisy, his wife, with Myrtle the other person I do not like. He is also a sexist man. He believes women should not be voting or doing the things they were doing in the 1920s. He is a racist bastard. Yeah, I said bastard. He believes the colored should not take our jobs and have rights. He also believes that immigrants should not be allowed to come to our country and take our jobs. Another reason is that he is abusive. He slapped Myrtle across the face when she brought up daisy. He is physically and verbally abusive to the women he is romantically involved with. I do believe I had made the right choice with my placement of Tom. As I said before I would never and could never kill anyone, even if it is figuratively. But if I was under dire circumstances  I would. Even though he has money I would still not hook up with him or marry him.

Throughout playing this game I did learn some things about the characters and my choices. I do believe that my choices for the men and the women characters of the Great Gatsby are perfect, but that is my opinion.

  1. To start, never say your choices are perfect, because obviously, Tom is not the correct person to kill. During prohibition, the manufacture and selling of drugs was illegal. This was something that Gatsby did, and a large portion of his money came from that. While Tom is a despicable person, being adulterous and violent, that doesn't necessarily break the law. While it shouldn't be condoned, the only crime he did commit was domestic abuse, but the severity of that pales to the severity of smuggling alcohol. While now, we look back and see it was repealed, at the time, prohibition was an amendment, and Gatsby was directly breaking it. As the bigger criminal of the two, Gatsby should justifiably die. Even though he is a "good person" and "romantic" the fact is, he did break the law, and his actions should be punished. You claim he is good-hearted, but he sits on a throne of lies, built around crime. Calling it "illegal things" is underplaying the severity of what Gatsby has done. He broke one of the highest laws of the land at that time, the constitution, and should be punished for such.

  2. Amelia, for starters, your blog was inadequate since you did not use any quotes to support your opinions. If you did use quotes, I would more strongly agree with your opinions since I do already agree that Gatsby should be married, Tom should be killed, and Wilson should be hooked-up with. I do not agree that Daisy deserves to live based off the fact that she was exposed as a heartless person in chapter 9 since she did not attend Gatsby's funeral nor did she feel remorse for moving on from Gatsby back to Tom. However, I do agree that Tom deserves to die since he abusive and aggressive. Overall, I agree with parts of your blog but your argument would be strengthened if you added quotes.

  3. Amelia, I agree with most of your views on which character you would do that with, but I feel that you didnt maintain your argument with enough evidence. If you had evidence it would make your views much more convincing to me and every other reader. But other than that you did a great job explaining why you would do what (minus quotes) and went into substantial detail. I agree that Tom deserves to die and Wilson should be hooked up with. And another thing is I think Daisy deserves to live because its just in her nature to only worry about money and herself, not anyone else and thats why she didnt go to the funeral. Good Blog!

  4. Hi Amelia!
While I agree with most of your choices, you don't convince me as to why you chose that character for that action because you need quotes from the text. Your explanations are ok but you really need the text to back you up. I agree that Myrtle should be killed, Jordan married, and Daisy hooked up with, but i don't agree with your placement for Wilson and Gatsby. Although your quote evidence was lacking, I do think you somewhat redeemed yourself with the fact that you were thorough with you reasonings.
Overall, I thought your blog was a good start and was overall decent.

  5. I agree with you marrying Gatsby. However, why would you hook up with Wilson and not Tom? Tom has the perfect personality for a one night stand. Tom also isn't insane. I wouldn't want to be with Wandering if he was going to kill me after. I would kill Wilson. He committed murder, and then killed himself. This shows that he was very mentally unstable.

I agree with you marrying Jordan. As I have said in other blogs, she is the least dramatic out of all of them. She is more neutral.
I also agree with you killing Myrtle. She is by far the most selfish character in the book. She is willing to steal Tom from his married wife in order to get more money.
Lastly, I would also hook up with Daisy. She is hot, but not marriage material. She is annoying and indecisive. She doesn't understand that once you are married, you don't go back.
