The state of the union address is an annual message delivered by the president of the United States of America to a joint session with the United States Congress. The state of the union address is given at the beginning of each year. At the beginning of this year, President Trump gave a state of the union address filled with logos, emotive language, and ethos. All throughout Trump's speech, his tone is inspirational, confident, and informative. He appeals to his audience throughout his speech. His audience is American citizens. Which are families, children, and even veterans. Trump made this speech to inform his citizens of his plans for the new year. And this speech is very effective when you listen to it and read it.

Trump's choice of diction ties into what made the tone of his speech sound confident. When you read his speech it makes you confident in America and makes you confident in trump's choices. For example, Trump stated in his speech that "But unlike so many who came before me, I keep my promises. We did our job." He insults every former president that came before him to make his image and his points seem greater than any other presidents. This makes his tone in speech even more confident in himself. Trump also lists only the good things he has done for America not the bad. This ties into his choice of diction which made his pathos. By Trump listing the good things, he has done he makes his target audience confident in him and his choices. It makes his target audience excited and confident. Another way Trump uses emotive language to appeal to pathos is by bringing in an 8th graders story. He talks about how that 8th grader named Ian Lanphier wants to go into space and how his grandfather is one of the last surviving Tuskegee Airmen — the first black fighter pilots. Trump also promotes Ian's grandfather-which he deserves. But by Trump bringing in Ian and his grandfather's story into his speech makes his audience feel happy and feels that Trump is for the citizens of America and that they can trust him. Trump chooses his choice of words very precise. Trump repeats the word "Always" in a part of his speech. This produces emphasis on how he will protect his citizen’s rights. By Trump repeating always makes his audience trust him and every word he is saying.

Another way Trump's speech is effective is by Trump applying to logos. He applies to logos by giving statistics and facts in his speech. For example, he stated, "over 300,000 working-age people dropped out of the workforce...3.5 million people — working-age people — have joined the workforce." By applying to logos in his speech makes his speech effective and makes the points he is stating true and credible. Trump applies to logos all throughout his speech. He applies to it in the beginning and in the last paragraph of his speech. By Trump using so much logos in his speech to make every word, he says statistically true and supported. Trump also appeals to ethos. If Trump being president is not good enough ethos for his speech then Trump bringing in Senator Tim Scott should. By bringing in Tim Scott a senator makes him and that statement Trump stated credible because senator Tim Scott was apart of that plan. Every high power person or person who was apart of his strategies and plans makes any statement Trump states about those plans credible. Even though Trump is the president of the United States any speech he gives still needs to have ethos, logos, and emotive language in it. Without appealing to any of these 3 rhetorical analysis strategies will make any paper or speech they write not effective. Trump appeals to all three, ethos, logos, and emotive language. Trump's speech because of these three rhetorical analyses.
